Dear Precious Ethan, I wish you could understand how much the country has come to love you but it’s nothing compared to how much God loves you. You are always in our thoughts and prayers. I wear a blue ribbon so when people ask why I can tell them about you. I truly believe God has big plans for your future and you are going to beat the leukemia. God bless you and God be with you (we know He’s with you and your mommy and daddy and I have this mental picture of God holding you in his tender yet mighty arms singing Jesus loves me in your ear and giving you butterfly kisses). Someone in the chat room the other night said God has you in the palm of His hand and I like that picture, too.

You are an amazing little boy! You have the most precious face and incredible spirit. You have brought many people together in one common goal ~ to pray for you.
We care about you, we have genuine concern and compassion for you, and many of us don’t even “know” you. Many of us have never met your parents or you; however, you have become part of our family. We check your website as soon as we wake up, and before we go to bed, and we think of you throughout the day. I know this is true from others as well, who have mentioned it in the chat room.
My son, Preston, is 5 years old. Yesterday he was making wishes by tossing pennies into a water fountain. He had 5 pennies. One wish was for his sister (who is in college); he said “I wish Kristin could be in our world again”. Another wish he whispered was “I wish I could watch any movie I want whenever I wanted”. I can’t remember the 3rd wish right now. But then he had two pennies left. And he whispered the most precious wish. He said “These two pennies are for baby Ethan, I wish he feels better and better every day.”
Every single wish is special and so valuable when you toss it in the fountain. For a 5 year old boy, every little penny must be carefully considered and contemplated. There is so much to wish for … every wish must be weighed for importance. We just want you to know you are a “TWO” penny wish for us.

I am writing to you so that when you get old enough to read it will be helpful for you as you grow and mature to manhood. I firmly believe you are a special child sent from God to do great things in this world. None of us know how that will be done specifically, but even at an early age of 2 months you brought people to their knees in prayer for your recovery from your illness. People who did not know you and never had any contact with your parents or grandparents. Those of us who are reading about your progress daily (or even many times a day) and praying for your recovery are experiencing the wonder of God’s answer to prayer. You have a great Mother and Father. Your Dad has, and is daily, sharing with us how God is answering Prayer.
Today is a very special prayer request, and that is that God will truly guide them in the correct proceedure to follow your recovery. I’m sure you have been told about this a hundred times over, but it may help to know that there were thousands of strangers praying for that decision along with your parents.

I get such a blessing each day as I read the daily progress of baby Ethan. Your family are alway in my prayers. Ethan is on my church prayer list as he is so many others. I am praying for you and I like what your dad always says, Prayer Works. We know that for a fact because my grandson had AML which is one kind of leukemia. He has been through chemo and had a transplant three years ago this July. Many people were praying for him and God answered those prayers. He is doing well now and I look forward to the day I read on your report that you are over all of this and doing fine too. Colton was treated at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.
I know you can’t read or understand this now but your mom and dad will and they will see one more time when prayer worked.

Youre fighting a battle right now and I know sometimes you get so tired but you hang on because Jesus is working on you. I didnt believe in miracles a lot before hearing about you but I do now. My name is Alex Wiser! I am 20 months old. I wanted to write you a little note of encouragement. I am a very new and young survivor of JMML (a very rare form of childhood leukemia!) I was diagnosed in March of 2006 after coming to America all the way from Guatemala (my mommy and daddy adopted me from there). I had a central line broviac placed (just like you have) and had two rounds of chemotherapy before going in for my bone marrow transplant in July of 2006. I’ve been very sick, and I was in the hospital for many months, but at the end of October I went into ICU and my mommy says our whole world changed. I don’t remember too much because I slept for about 5 weeks straight. One thing my mommy tells me is that she said I didn’t have to listen to anything the doctors said about not surviving or having serious or permanent complications. I just kept on sleeping. I had lots of tests, pokes, and procedures, but then I just decided it was time to leave the ICU! God Healed Me – Ethan! My mommy and daddy had people all over the country and world praying for me – just like you do. Because we too believe in the power of prayer. I’ve been home now for over three months. My leukemia is in remission. I’m learning how much fun it is to be a regular little boy who plays at home (not at the hospital). My mommy and daddy tell me that God has the final say and not the doctors. God is all powerful, mighty and Perfect in all that He does. I pray for you with my mommy, daddy, and sister daily, and know that God will show His healing of strength and goodness, peace, and comfort to all of you during this time. My mommy and daddy felt a lot like your mommy and daddy – tired, tired, sometimes sad, sometimes happy, sometimes lonely, sometimes afraid, sometimes discouraged, but then God always reminded them that He is good and right not just because of what He does but because of who He is! Keep strong, keep fighting Ethan. Check out my carepages to read my whole story if you get the chance. I really enjoyed talking to you on the phone the other night. It made us feel so good to hear your sweet little sounds. We have believed from the very beginning that you are going to be another one of God’s miracles and one day you & I (Uncle Gerald) can sit and talk about all that the Lord has done for us.
I really don’t know how to explain it, but there are times that the Lord just gives you that inner peace that everything is going to be OK. I have had that peace about you from the very beginning.
We watch your updates many times throughout the day and we walk constantly in prayer for you, mom and dad. By the way when you get older I can tell you all kinds of things that your daddy,Aunt Elizabeth & Uncle Grey use to get into when they were young. Some of the stories are really interesting.

Ethan….where do I begin? Little did I know that the day I recieved an e~mail from my sister it would be a heartbreaking story of a precious little boy fighting the battle for his life. You are such a precious child to all that know you and to all of us that have never even had the oppurtunity to meet you. God has a way of bringing people into this world and taking people out of this world to teach us all about life. I have learned so much just by following your story. You always believe as a cristian and have heard your whole life about how God loves us so much and about how PRAYER WORKS. In this busy and crazy world we often do not actualy take the time to stop and think about how true this is. We take so much for granted because it is so easy. Every time I look at your darling face on my screen, I think you are more precious than the time before(usually no more than a “few” minutes) as I can hardly keep myself from watching for UPDATES.

I watched my next door neighbors go thru all of what you are going thru with their son Michael when he was 12. He is living proof that prayer works and that St. Jude’s is the place to be with this type disease. He is 28 years old now married and has been luekemia free since he was 15. He still returns to St. Judes occasionally. Hang in there and God will provide you all with the strength to get to each new challenge.

I just wanted you to know that ever since I received the prayer request on March 20 that I have continued to pray for you and your mommy and daddy. When I saw your picture and read your story I wept with grief. You sure have a very strong mommy and daddy and the Good Lord is going to continue to bless you and your family in ways that are indescribable. BONE MARROW INFORMATION FROM GRANDDADDY
Friday, March 30, 1:30 p.m – 6:30 p.m., North Caddo Medical Center in Vivian, Louisiana will be holding a bone marrow donor drive for Ethan Powell. Ethan is the 3 month old son of Ben and Becky Powell. He was diagnosed with leukemia at 8 weeks of age and was given a 15% chance of survival. Today, Ethan is fighting strong at St. Jude’s Medical Center preparing for a bone marrow transplant. Patients, that need a bone marrow transplant, have the best chance of finding a match through a sibling. Ethan is the Powell’s first child so the family is looking to friends as well as strangers to help save their baby’s life. One can be tested and registered on a national donor list by a quick swab of the mouth. This is all the test will involve on Friday, March 30. Ethan’s mom and dad are sharing their testimony of faith and asking for prayers through their website http://www.ethanpowell.com. The donor drive will be held at North Caddo Medical Center’s HealthPlex, 102 Industrial Drive, Vivian, Louisiana (next to Gesipa off of Hwy 1). If one is interested in giving a donation for the drive please contact Mary Murdock at North Caddo Medical Center or there is an account available at Citizens Bank and Trust.

I would just like to let the Powell’s know that my family, as well as our church family, are praying for you. I do not know you personally but I sure wish that I did. Me being a father myself and only 1 year older than Ben made me feel a little guilty. Guilty in the sense of how much I take my only daughter’s “normal” life for granted. She is 17 months old and I simply don’t know what I would do if something happened. I became religious only recently but I just want you to know that last night I took my wife by the hand (which I have never done before)and asked her to kneel and pray with me for Ethan. We did exactly that and literally a feeling that I have never felt before came over me. I still cannot explain it. My wife and I both cried but it was not sorrowful tears. These were tears of joy because I know Ethan will beat this. There is a marrow drive being conducted at Sam’s Town Casino on Monday May 7th here in Shreveport and I will be there to get tested. In the meantime we will continue to keep you in our prayers.
